Other Projects

These projects did not achieve much, but still helped me become a better game developer.

Yee Haw

The last game I made before being accepted into the Game Development Minor at MSU was titled "Yee Haw." In this game, the player assumed the role of a sheep herder. Your objective was to use a lasso to keep rambunctious sheep safe inside your farm pen. This game was also created in a small team over the course of five weeks. Once again, I implemented the audio. Furthermore, I created the sheep AI, programmed the power-ups, and added a few other aspects relating to the game's design and UI. The creation of this game contributed greatly to my skillset, and furthered my experience in game design.

Beat Blast

The first game which I saw to completion was titled: "Beat Blast". Created by me and four others during one of Spartasoft's five-week Prespec cycles, this game aimed to be a rhythm based shooter, similar to "Asteroids" and "Just Shapes and Beats." The player's goal was to survive for as long as they could and shoot as many ships as possible. During development, I implemented all of the audio (after many revisions) as well as all of the user interface functionality. Though the audio synchronization was never fully perfected, we were still able to create something fun and learn from the process.

Shooty Man

Next semester, I participated in a 48-hour game jam hosted by Spartasoft. In a team of four, I was one of two programmers. Being in this position, I implemented half of the game's functionality as well as all of its audio. The game became a shooting platformer where the player would have to fire a bullet which was the same color as the enemy they were trying to shoot. Five minutes before our deadline, we decided it needed a name: "Shooty Man". Though we were unable to perfect the main mechanic, creating this game helped me get a better understanding of the core elements of unity and the C# language.

Final Remarks

There were other games which I contributed towards; however, they did not come to much fruition. Despite this, I still learned a great deal about the game development process while creating each of them. I've learned how to manage my time, cooperate in a team, and strive for excellence in my area of expertise. Overall, I've come a long way and plan to go even further in the future.
